Welcome to this, the first edition of The Ampney Villages Directory, which is being distributed to all the households in the three Ampneys.  It will be a useful guide to all the organisations that add so much to our communities.

There are two groups to thank for financing the new directory.  Firstly, the Cheltenham & Gloucester Rural Initiative Fund whose grant has covered the major part of the cost and, secondly, our advertisers who, through their support, have made up the balance.

The main ‘thank you’ goes to Elisabeth Gerver and Terry Bloxham who have done all the hard work.  Elisabeth (whose brain child it was) has taken on the responsibility of gathering all the material together and Terry, being the computer literate one, has done all the layout work and designed the map.

Finally, thanks to all the chairs and secretaries who have contributed to what we hope will be a permanent feature of our village life.

David Vessey, Chairman, Ampney Crucis Parish Council

Editors’ note

We embarked on this directory after an overly enthusiastic conversation which Elisabeth had with David Vessey in 2005, when the new Ampney Crucis playground opened in such a downpour of rain that the vicar nearly blessed “this ship and all who sail in her” rather than the swings and roundabout. The main idea was to create a reference point about all the organisations and services available in the villages for both established residents and newcomers in an area where the turnover of residents is about 10% a year.
