Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages

Cirencester Registration Office

Gloucestershire Registration Service is part of the range of services provided through Gloucestershire County Council (GCC). They register all the births, marriages and deaths which take place within Gloucestershire, and provide a certificate to record the event. This certificate has a legal status.

Gloucestershire Registration Service also provide related ceremonies within the county. Some of these ceremonies are statutory (carry a legal status) such as marriage ceremonies. Some of the ceremonies are non-statutory such as naming of a child or renewal of marriage vows.  Gloucestershire Registration Service provides these services for everyone

Gloucestershire Registration Service can provide a range of registration and ceremonial services, such as weddings and naming ceremonies, at any one of their six registration offices in Gloucestershire, or at any 'Approved Premises'. They also issue copy certificates to the public.

If you are tracing your family history, your local register office can offer advice about obtaining copy certificates. Since 1st July 1837 local registrars have recorded all births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales. These records are kept in local register offices, and every quarter registrars send copies to the Registrar General who then adds them to the full set of records for England and Wales.
