Pleydell Memorials

Ampney Crucis Parish Church

 

There are three plaques in the Vestry, two of which are very difficult to photograph. 
One has little or no contrast.
The second has limited access in front of the plaque and can only be photographed at a steep upward angle.

 HENRY PLEYDELL DAWNAY, Baronet,
Lord Viscount DOWNE,
Whose Remains be buried at MEURS, near WEZEL
on the Banks of the LOWER RHINE.

He was Lord of the Bed Chamber to GEORGE the Third
both when KING and PRINCE OF
WALES

He was elected Knight of the Shire
For the
County of York
Colonel by brevet
Colonel of the South Battalion of Militia
of the West riding of the
County of YORK
And Lieutenant Colonel of the Twenty fifth
Regiment of Foot which he commanded at the
Battle of MINDEN, August  ?  1759
And again at the
Battle of CAMPEN ? 1760
where being Mortally wounded
? died ?  Ninth of December following
?  ?  in the Year of his Age ? ?
