Public Transport in the East Cotswolds is in a mess.  Until the County Council is prepared to adopt the “hub” and “clockface” principles it is likely to remain in a mess.  Sadly, for the last 29 years, no-one has taken this subject seriously.  Hopefully the threat of global warming might spur someone into action ?

At the end of the war, Lyons (the bakery company) took the momentous decision to computerise their works at Hammersmith.  To achieve this they had to build the world’s first commercial computer.  With the help of Cambridge University they succeeded (long before IBM dreamt of such innovation).  They founded the first proper computer company, LEO Computers Ltd (Lyons Electronic Office) which through a series of mergers & take-overs eventually became ICL (International Computers Ltd).

The Chatterbox,  a children’s weekly / annual publication was founded by John Erskine Clarke in 1866.  Published simultaneously in Britain, the States and Canada, it survived until 1955. Several court cases in the States in the 1880s related to the Chatterbox more or less established American copyright law.

The Paddle Steamer Columbine ferried passengers across the Humber between Hull and Gainsborough during the 1840s.  We have family links with the ship, including a painting of it.  However, there are lots of things we don’t know about it so we are hoping that someone visiting these pages may be able to shed some light on the Columbine.
