Descendants of John HARRISON
Second Generation
2. John HARRISON (John ) was born 1821 in Lamberhurst, Kent. At the time of his marriage in 1845 he was listed as an Office Clerk and resided in Gilbert St, Hanover Sq.. By 1848 he had moved to Ponders End, Enfield, Middlesex where he managed a Crepe Factory.
According to family papers
discovered in 1998:
"Great Grandfather Harrison kept the village inn either at Goudhurst or Ticehurst,
(Kent) . He apprenticed Grandfather Harrison to the Hop
Trade, and he worked in Calvert’s Building, Borough High Street. He then
became manager of Grouts, Crepe manufactures, who afterwards were absorbed by Courtaulds.
In a book given to him by his Uncle
Friend we think that this must have been the name
of our Great Grandmother. The Friends were related to the Bonycks, descendants
of the Flemish weavers who settled in Kent at the time of
the Huguenot persecutions."
