Old Newspapers

Old newspapers can be fascinating, either because of their content or simply because they are old. I recently came across a 1778 edition of Ruddiman’s Weekly Mercury, published in Edinburgh. If you follow this link, you’ll find the first page transcribed into modern fonts for easy reading. It includes stories about the wars in France and Germany, plus “The Affair of Rhode Island”.

Having lived in Osterode (Germany) for a couple of years I was interested to come across a copy of The Times from 1836 which featured the town. Part of it is reproduced here.
