Freeview Digital Television in Ampney Crucis
Most people in Ampney Crucis will now be able to pick up some or all of the Freeview Transmissions from the Oxford TV transmitter, with the help of a Freeview Decoding Box, although some may need to upgrade to a “high gain wideband aerial” to receive all the channels.
Don’t waste money on a new aerial – try your old one first – just borrow someone’s Freeview Box for an hour or so – it’s dead easy ! My 20-year-old aerial, parts of which the jackdaws have unscrewed, still managed to pick up all bar three digital channels.
(If you don’t live in Ampney Crucis but are still interested in receiving Freeview and digital TV, click the links at the bottom of this page)
Analogue transmissions from Mendip (HTV) will be switched OFF on 24th March 2010
Analogue transmissions from Cirencester (HTV) will be switched OFF on 24th March 2010
Analogue transmissions from Oxford (Central) will be switched OFF on 1st March 2011
Digital Television (& Radio) is transmitted using six UHF signals (called Digital Multiplexes), with each Digital Multiplex (MUX) carrying a number of TV and Radio channels. Here is a list of the six Multiplex signals coming into Ampney Crucis from the Oxford Transmitter, and what you can expect to receive on them:-
Note: The Oxford Transmitter is 32 miles from Ampney Crucis (as the crow flies), and is located at a bearing of 81° (magnetic).
* Note: Many of the following channels have
changed their stations several times,
but I don’t intend updating them at each change !
