CHATTERBOX
Publishing History

The publishers of Chatterbox took advantage of their own fame and published a number of spin-offs such as the Christmasbox (given free with the weekly paper each December), and Newsbox – first seen in 1916. As you look through the publishers (see index on left) you’ll notice many publications which clearly took advantage of the Chatterbox name.
There is, of course, a long list of “pirates” who published books with “Chatterbox” in the title in the United States in the 1880’s. American copyright law was more or less established thanks to a number of well-publicised legal actions by Estes & Lauriat against Frank Leslie, Belford Clarke and R. Worthington in particular.
