Not much information available on Hurst & Co,  and their 1881 edition of Chatterbox appears to be a one-off attempt to cash in one the name. However, one can’t help feeling that  John W. Lovell  might have had a hand in it somewhere !

The Hyde Park Book Store note that Thomas D Hurst published the pirated  Britannica in 1886 for Henry G. Allen Co, so he would not have been too troubled about pirating the Chatterbox.  They go on to say he was noted for his “cheap pulp paper in ugly bindings” and describe him as the worst of the cheap re-printers. .

Founded about 1871,  he appeared to have survived through to the 1890’s.  In 1890 Hurst sold out to Lovell,  but like others who sold to Lovell, when Lovell failed, he resumed publishing again.
